Cassette Deck, Cue Skip & Audio Engine

BandRoom’s audio engine is wrapped in a tactile vintage studio console aesthetic inspired by high-end Scandinavian and Japanese cassette decks (Nakamichi, Revox, Studer). It provides musician-specific tools absent from standard consumer music players.

1. Dual Transport Navigation: Track Skip vs. Cue Skip

Tap the Track Skip / Cue Skip pill in the cassette deck header to toggle transport behavior:

  • Track Skip Mode (Standard): ⏮ and ⏭ advance to the previous or next song in the playback queue.
  • Cue Skip Mode (Chapter Navigation):
    • ⏭ jumps directly to the next chapter marker (Intro ➔ Verse ➔ Chorus ➔ Solo).
    • ⏮ jumps backward: if tapped within the first 3.0 seconds of a section, it returns to the previous section marker; after 3.0 seconds, it restarts the current section from the downbeat.
    • Advancing past the final marker smoothly rolls into the next queued song.

2. Variable Speed Playback (0.5x – 1.5x with Preserved Pitch)

Mastering intricate guitar solos, complex drum grooves, or vocal harmonies requires slow-motion practice:

  • Select from 5 preset speeds: 0.5x, 0.75x, 1.0x (Normal), 1.25x, or 1.5x.
  • BandRoom utilizes high-fidelity pitch-preservation algorithms (preservesPitch = true), so slowing down a guitar solo to 0.5x keeps the musical key identical without turning the audio into muddy bass rumble.

3. ±10s Instant Rehearsal Jumps

Quickly rehearse a difficult transition without touching the timeline seekbar:

  • Tap -10s to jump back 10 seconds and retry a bridge transition.
  • Tap +10s to fast-forward past dead space or pre-count banter.

Visual Meters & Luminous VFD Counter

  • Twin Analog VU Meters: Calibrated peak and average VU meters react dynamically to audio output, helping audio engineers verify stereo balance and prevent ear fatigue.
  • Luminous Digital VFD Display: Shows elapsed time, total duration, and a vintage 4-digit mechanical tape counter (TAPE 0432).
  • Animated Tape Spools: High-resolution SVG spools rotate dynamically in real time, adjusting their rotational velocity and tape hub radius based on tape elapsed position and playback speed.

Share specific rehearsal moments across band chat:

  1. Tap the Link icon (🔗) next to any chapter cut or timeline position.
  2. BandRoom copies a timestamp URL to your clipboard: https://app.bandroomapp.com/#track=trk_8f92&t=142&label=Solo
  3. When bandmates open the link on mobile or desktop, BandRoom automatically loads the session, seeks to 02:22, and highlights the designated chapter marker.

Run your band from rehearsal room to center stage. Zero telemetry, pure client-side privacy.
