Cloud Sync & Automated Local Backups

Your music, rehearsal notes, and setlists belong to you, always. BandRoom provides transparent, zero-lock-in backup and synchronization solutions.

1. Automated Local File Backup (bandroom-backup.json)

On supported desktop browsers (Chrome, Edge, Brave) and native desktop apps, BandRoom continuously backs up your entire band workspace to a local folder on your computer:

1. Open Settings (gear icon) and locate the "Automated Local File Backup" card.
2. Click "Choose Local Backup Directory...".
3. Select a folder on your drive (e.g. Documents/BandRoom/ or your synced iCloud Drive/Dropbox folder).
4. Continuous Silent Sync: BandRoom automatically saves on startup and debounces silent updates after editing songs, setlists, notes, or folders, overwriting a clean single file (bandroom-backup.json).
5. Mobile Fallback: On mobile browsers (Safari iOS, Chrome Android) where direct folder access is sandboxed, use the 1-click "Download Full Backup (.json)" button.

2. Google Drive Multi-Device Cloud Sync (drive.appdata)

Sync your BandRoom state between your iPhone, iPad, Android phone, and laptops via Google Drive:

• Isolated App Data Folder: BandRoom utilizes Google Drive’s restricted drive.appdata scope. It stores sync payloads in a hidden application data folder that only BandRoom can access.
• Strict Privacy: BandRoom has zero access to your personal Google Drive documents, photos, or emails.
• Automatic Silent Sync: Changes sync seamlessly in the background whenever an internet connection is available.

3. Selective / Granular Data Export

When sharing data with band members, you might not want to export your entire database:

1. Open Settings > Export Data....
2. Selectively check the data categories to export:
   • Song Book Catalog: Master songs, tempos, keys, tunings, notes, and benchmark takes.
   • Gigs & Setlists: Upcoming shows, stage times, set orders, and cues.
   • Custom Playlists: Custom mixtapes and track sequences.
   • Starred Takes: Starred rehearsal take metadata.
   • Song Notes & Cuts: Chapter cuts and arrangement memos.
   • Storage Sources: Connected Google Drive and Dropbox folder links.
3. Automatic Sanitization: BandRoom strictly strips all private API keys, passcodes, and security tokens before generating the export file.

4. Import & Conflict Resolution Strategies

To restore data or merge a bandmate's setlist into your app:

1. Open Settings > Import / Restore... and pick any BandRoom .json file.
2. The Pre-Import Inspector displays exact counts of incoming songs, gigs, and notes.
3. Choose your Conflict Resolution Strategy:
   • Overwrite / Replace: Updates existing matching songs or gigs with incoming data.
   • Keep Local / Skip: Preserves your existing local versions, importing only brand-new items.
   • Duplicate as Copy: Imports conflicting items as new entries with an (Imported) suffix.
   • Full Disaster Recovery (Replace All): Cleanly wipes local state and restores the complete backup.
